Solar Concessions
Solar Concessions is a pair of welcome and concession kiosks designed for a modern-day museum. They are intended not only to perform the practical functions of welcoming and refreshing, but also to reflect the more lofty educational mission of the museum.
The solution was to provide a flexible contraption that folds up into itself by night, and by day is powered by solar energy as an extension of the museum’s educational mission. As one waits for refreshments or orientation information, the explanation of solar power on the fold-out concession stand acts as a sort of pre-museum on the front steps, broadcasting the museum’s ethic and educating bystanders about our world and planet.
